Illustration Friday: Rescue

I can't say I agree with her methods, but sometimes justice must be brutal & swift! That being said, her sentiment reflects my own. My mom told me that when I was little I used to cry when people stepped on ants and said "Don't hurt them, they're my friends!" Dang, I was either very empathetic or terribly lonely. Anyway, the ants are grateful for their rescue and will surely sing their heroine's praises in their anty hymns for generations to come. Or something. Short though those generations may be...

Er...hmm.

I did this in my sketchbook at lunch, so yay me for being productive! Speaking of which, I have a 4 day weekend coming up wherein I'll be drawing my butt off for my previously mentioned solo show. And if you aren't already, you should follow me on Twitter, because there will be a bit of awesomeness going on. Not a lot, just a bit.

**edit. -It comes to my attention that not everyone "gets" this drawing. The little boy was poised to burn the ants with the magnifying glass in his hand.
So, there you have it.

  1. I wouldn't call them my friends (they kind of creep me out, actually), but I've always been very anti-ant-killing, too. I feel sick if I even accidentally crush one >.<

  2. As a child I never killed an ant. The idea of killing one individual ant seemed preposterous. Killing several of them, however, experimenting with different liquids to see which was more effective; trying to see how long they would breathe under water, that project seemed more promesing. I now have come to see the evilness of my ways and wish I could bring back all those creatures I so intensely enjoyed eliminating from the face of the earth. But they are now gone. May they rest in pieces.
